EDITOR'S MESSAGE

As you've come to know by now, this space is usually occupied by the club president and her monthy message. Since we're between presidents as of the publication of this issue, let me say a few words here this time.

This past year—our first as a publication—was especially rewarding to me, as you allowed me the privilege of bringing you the monthly news of the club in a format that was both challenging and fun. Let me assure you though, I had a lot of help throughout the year. Dr. Derek Lodico wrote three informative "Health Corner" articles and a great contest report covering the "Logjam 2006" event. Others members contributing stories were: Omar Metwalli, Travis Long, Josh Hall, Jeff Hackert and Dennis Ogden. Thanks guys! (Okay ladies, it's your turn to step up to the plate.)

Also contributing to every issue was Kathy Austin in her monthly "President's Message." It was a real pleasure to work with a pro like Kathy and her message each month was the perfect pep talk we needed to get each issue going. Without her voice, some issues would have been one-man-shows, that is, everything written by me alone, a problem I try to avoid as much as possible. I'm always ready for one of you out there contributing to the newsletter in any way you can, be it a story you've written, photography you've taken or art you've created. In fact, the main feature for this issue is a selection of photos that Ron Greene took throughout 2006 at various club events and contests. I know many of you will enjoy reliving moments from last year through the lens of Ron's camera.

An easy way to contribute is to send a "Letter to the Editor." Write about any surfing related subject that's on your mind. Need some ideas? How about:

• Secret spots
• Surf etiquette (or the lack thereof)
• Kooks
• Localism
• Water quality
• Surfers you admire

You get the idea, the possibilities are endless. So, without further adu, let's get on with the issue at hand.

NEW CLUB LOGO CONTEST

Over the past three months we've encouraged our visually creative members to come up with a fresh new logo design for the club. Matthew Melin and Omar Metwalli took up the challenge and sent in a couple of new designs each. Your editor also submitted three for your consideration. In addition, we have the "Original" and "Shield" logos vying to retain their place in your heart and at the top of our letterhead. The logo with the most votes will be featured on new T-shirts, hats, decals, and other interesting places we can dream up, so your vote carries an enormous weight. Choose well, it'll be the one we'll be using until the next time we go through this exercise.

How to Vote: Please review the nine entries below. After you've made a decision, send an email to Kathy Austin at kaustin@signaturefunding.com with your choice for the new logo (or to retain the "original" or "shield" logo). Each logo is numbered and has a brief description. Use that number and description when you cast your vote by email to Kathy. The deadline is January 20. As a majority of our subscribers are not active members in the club, a reminder that only active members' votes will count. (See, another reason why you should've joined the club: perks like these!) The winning logo will be revealed in the next issue.

Drum roll please:

1. The Original

2. The Shield

3. PB Wave

4. PB Longboard

5. Surfer Rectangle Large

6. Surfer Rectangle Small

7. "V" Shape With Surfer

8. "V" Shape Without Surfer

9. Cone Shape
